INDIAN BENCHMARKS: SENSEX CLOSED DOWN 166 POINTS, NIFTY HOLD 9600

Equity benchmarks closed lower after seeing consolidation in previous week. The Nifty managed to hold 9600 level.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 166.36 points at 31,095.70 and the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 51.85 points to 9,616.40.

The broader markets, too, lost half a percent on weak breadth. About 1,694 shares declined against 1,019 advancing shares on the BSE.

Larsen & Toubro, Wipro and Bank of Baroda were the top losers, while Sun Pharma, Infosys and Tech Mahindra gained the most.

The crucial resistance for Nifty spot is now seen at 9645 and above this 9710.Support for the immediate term is now placed at 9600 and next support will be 9550.
